Tranny servce Qu's
I need to servce my trans i have a 97 1500 4x4 with a brand new long block. Yea i just spent 2000 on a long block so i need my trans to last intill i get that payed off. The trans is not slips or any thing. It make a funny nosie when it cold and i backing up. Only in a blue moon it dose that. So with a little back round of my trans what be the best with to use when doing my servce. I was just got to go to napa and get the trans kit. What type of fluild should i use and what should i stay away from.
Thanks,
Thanks,
make sure the filter kit comes with the plastic gasket not cork the cork gasket is too thin which puts trans pan closer to the filter and always leak as for trans fluid atf+4 only ur trans will last longer and operate better
I had a 97 that started off doing that...few thousand miles later I was putting a new tranny in it that blew out as well within a couple thousand miles....got that repaired and before I left town it blew again...the tranny shop finally started looking into it and found a blockage going into the radiator so the tranny would get too hot. They put a separate radiator type cooler (tranny cooler) on it and it was fine after that...I was moving home when this all happened so when I got home I traded it in! So I dont know if that actually fixed the problem or not.
The OD would kick out on its own...I would have to shut it off and turn it back on, then a few miles later it kick out again...Weird!

That's what it does when your tranny overheats. Its in the manual. I'm surprised that it went back into OD after turning itself off.

It's also common for the tranny to go out on these mid to late 90's dodges. While I was waiting for mine to be repaired I met 3 other people (by accident, not at the tranny shop) who were also driving gen 2 dodges with rebuilt trannys in them...I would get it checked out. Mine started out the same way...in the cold and reverse. I asked my dad if I should get it checked out and he said "no, why cant you just drive things the way they are, it runs fine doesn't it?" A few thousand miles later on a cross country drive is when it broke down.
