ok Guys there is a very simple solution to check your track bar by yourself
steps
1. roll down your window
2.shut off truck
3. stand beside drivers door and grab steering wheel
4. look at front axle while jiggling wheel
If you see any side to side movement your trackbar is gone, if your not sure get a friend to do the same thing with you under truck looking at trackbar ball joint if you see movemnt replace
Dodge dealer says track bar and steering gear are NFG. Track bar=$257 and steering gear $666. I just about ****. These are Canadian prices for parts only, plus lobor. Anybody have suggestions to save me some $$$? How hard is it for the do-it-yourselfer?
not hard...i have done both...u can buy a rebuilt or used gear box out of a junk yard for roughly 130 bucks even if you go through a few of them over the years its better then 600 right now...but i bought a rebuilt and never had any prob's track is about the same idea...harder to find a good track bar though

You can get a brand new track bar through schucks for about 160. Piece of cake to take and put back in. Get a pickle fork and beat the heck out of it to get it out. I had a slight problem getting the ball joint end back in the hole, had my son get in and turn the steering wheel to get it lined up. You may need to use a hammer to get it through enough to get the nut on. Steering box i'm not sure about although i know there is a DIY for adjusting the gear.
Good luck
