The death flash is what Dodge did instead of recalling the trucks to have the plenum issues fixed. Rather than replace every single steel plenum plate with aluminum ones, so they'd be the same material and have the same expansion properties of the aluminum intake manifolds, Dodge just got rid of the pinging issues caused by the leaking plenums. They reprogrammed the computer to retard the timing, therefore killing power and a bit of gas mileage in the trucks. This got rid of the symptoms of the plenum problem, which was good enough for the higher ups at Chrysler, because a quick less than 1 hour programming was cheaper than paying for the materials and labor involved of replacing the plenum and/or plenum gasket in every 2nd generation truck.

Thank you...now I get it. Do you have any idea how much power you get back when you fix the issue?
