Mine started running a little better with the 180* T-stat. I noticed a little more torque with it than I did with the 195* it had, but not very much. My main reason for it was to help keep the engine cooler, but I had hoped of course for the additional power as well. I will always keep it at 180* for these added benefits.

Cool Doubtful

Hey lv360, Im no expert but I dont look for a light coming on as several people here are running 180* t-stats with no ill effects. Maybe if yours came on it has to do with your Cali Emissions, not sure just speculating. Ask some others here there is a lot of knowledge in this forum, some "crap" lol.. but mostly good information.

I've never had a light come on from my 180 t-stat.

Mine doesn't have the Cali emissions but I got an error code when I put the 180 deg in mine. I put it in in colder weather (40's-50's). It seems to happen with the 2001's the most.

Also, I have ran the CAI and now run the 14" round filter and the round filter is a lot better in my opinion. The CAI just doesn't sound no where as good. Performance is close, but it seems to do slightly better with the 14" round filter.

I installed one in my truck 2 years ago and have never got a CEL. Before i installed it, the truck would run about 210. now it is in the 180 range when fully warmed up, A/C on, and in the city.

I wonder if I would still get a light where I am running the Superchips? Probably wouldn't make any difference.

I had a 180* t stat and before I changed the water pump, I never got a CEL. With the new water pump, I get one occasionally. Usually, it's on a cool morning if I get lucky and don't hit a stop light on the way to work. The engine bay just doesn't get hot enough to heat up the truck and it'll throw it.
