I have a 97 1500 4x4 with 285/75/16s on it and they rub ever so slightly when I cut it all the way in either direction. I have wheel spacers I haven't put on yet which should resolve it, but I would not try to go to a 315 without a lift.
Depends on if you have stock wheels or not. A 1500 is tight with stock wheels, and will rub a ton with aftermarket wheels with less backspacing. I've got 285's on my 2500 (that sits 2.5-3" higher than a 1500) with aftermarket wheels, and they rub a lot at full turn.
To answer your questions, no way in hell 315's are fitting on a stock 1500.

Depends. A 285/75r16 is basically a 33x11 (roughly). If you get a 33x12.50 you'll most likely rub, depending on brand and style. Plus the extra width will cause more wind resistance, and decrease your mileage slightly.
I here you can fit 315's with a 3"lift in the front & 1" in back (should level it out).

alright well i'v been lookin around. and i cant find any good 33"s that will fit on 20" rims.. just in case we stick wit the 35"s... how much lift are we talking about... the truck im buyin next week is a 98 Dodge Ram Sport. i read that the sports dont have the leveling difference.... so now... for 35" tires on a ram sport.. how much lift are we talkin about, AND what are some good ones to use that are reasonably priced

Although I don't have a real lift (I have 3/4 ton springs up front 2 1/2" lift & 2" blocks in back) I hear skyjacker is a favorite...
However... BEWARE, once you get it lifted and have new tires and all on... go get an alignment and put as much caster as you can in the front end to prevent the DW... and make sure you have a good and tight front end, including the tracbar...

so whats the deal on the sport trucks about already being leveled? i found a lift on e-bay i dont know the quality of it, but it lifts the front 3" and the rear 1" it says that will just cut it for 35" tires. but if the Sports have stock leveling then the front will be 2" higher than the rear. could somone help if this is true or not. and if its true where can i find a good EVEN lift?
