Default V10 trany

Think I have the beginning of problem... 3500dually V10 116k miles... on cold mornings it takes a few moments to pop into gear, also experiencing sluggish shifts 2nd to 3rd unless i back off throttle. I know nothing about this truck... grew up working on Fords (can i say that here?)... fluid level is fine, fluid color is fine.... do i have bands to adjust? vacuum servos to replace? anyone done this b4? not having much luck with google.

I have 96 V10 2500. Mine shifts from 1st to 2nd pretty roughly when its cold and I have to back off the throttle sometimes to get it into 3rd. I have been driving it like this ever since i can remember. Mine has 170k and it still goes. I also pull stuff a lot and it shifts the same under load. Mine also hesitates a bit when shifting into drive. It might be normal for these big trannys.

Default thx..

I've had mine since 53k miles... this is a new problem. I think we need to find a new site for V10 issues.... this is my second question here in probably 2 years... nobody responds to v10 issues.... saw your earlier post.... fuel consumption has always been my concern rather than more HP... so I couldn't help you. The posts you recv'd on intake are a good place to start. Think of your motor as a big air pump.... the more air you can suck in and the more you can blow out the better (w/in reason). I never really looked at the stock exhaust, but if you can go bigger that is another option for you.

Mine was hanging from 2-3. The stealership did a flush with some special additive and it cleared the problem right up for me. They said it was a sticky valve body in the tranny. I don't know if it would work in your case.

I don't think there is enough V10 owners around these days to have our own forum.

First thing to do:
Buy or download the service manual for your truck (it's somewhere on this site but don't know where...)

You'd better change the oil and filter and with the manual at hand, tighten the bands of your transmition. I think your problem will be solved.

My 96 1500 did the same thing the first winter I had it (got it used, not new). Flush job, filter and bands adjustment and it's been ok ever since.

I am tired of not having my V10 answers not answered. And even if people do respond they start with "my 1500 5.2" which is completely different. I am going to look aroound for other forums on V10 specific topics. I have seen some but they were usually about the Viper V10. I got a new air filter made my K&G and some throttle body cleaner. I am a litle nervous about spraying stuff in there... anyways... Tell me if you find a good forum!!

Well! If you download this, It includes the V-10 http://www.rm-indy.com/wavefiles/2001ramsrvcmanual.zip

And seeing how you don't want to completely fill out your sig so we know what year it is! The 2001 manual is pretty much the same for any 2nd gen. Ram. Look over the forum and you"ll see DIY's and FAQ's. Looking there just might answer your question. And V-10 or not, you have come to the right place for Dodge Ram info.

The transmission in your V10 is the exact same design as the 1500, 2500 series trucks.
It's just bigger components.
All the diagnosis is the same.
Sorry someone couldn't spoon feed you answers...
