Default New member trouble code

I have searched and looked in the stickies but just can't find it. 97 Ram 5.2. Using the on-off-on etc. method I am getting a code 36. The few lists I find with two digit codes don't have 36. Thank you for your help.

Don't think the code for the 91 would apply to a 97 with the introduction of OBD2. Codes were cleared and light stayed off when idleing in driveway it came on as soon as it hit the street.

Well when i saw the number "36" the code you gave was OBD 1 if you have an obd2 code, then post the four digit number.

There isn't a four digit number. I am not using a scanner. I am getting the code from the flashes of the check engine light. Since the truck is a 97 I can get the light to flash a two digit code. I don't find a lot of info on the two digit codes and the list or two that I have found don't mention 36. Thanks again.
PS- In case your not sure what I mean in 97 you can cycle the ignition on-off-on-off-on and get the light to flash the code(s). It's only two digits, but it is OBD2

After a quick search, P0036 (which, I'm guessing, is what his "36" is)...

P0036 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

After another quick search, evidentily HO2S means "Heated Oxygen Sensor".

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't sensor 2 the one after the catalytic converter?

Autozone has a list of the codes and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be that kind of correlation between the 2 and 4 digit codes. For example 37= P0743 and 55= P0000. The two digit code for Oxygen sensor problems is 21. For some reason there is no listing for my 36.

Oh yes, the weird 1997 models. I had forgotten about that, my apologies.

I would take it to an actual AutoZone or another auto parts store that does free code reading.

Looks like I might have to. There seems to be alot of confusion even on sites dedicated to trouble codes. Problem is the inspection is expired (wont pass because of this issue) so I'd rather not drive it. I'll give it another day and see if anyone comes up with anything. Looks like these codes are only good for 97's.

Well, if even if you got pulled over and checked by an officer, if you explained to him you were taking it to a parts store to get the problems, the reasons why the inspection failed, taken care of, he should let you go. Maybe follow you to make sure you're not lying, but still, let you off with maybe at the most a warning.

And if the officer is a hard-a**, take him to court over it, explaining you had to take it somewhere to get fixed to pass the inspections.

But my state doesn't have inspections, so I guess I have no idea how the enforcement system works with inspections.
