Default Best Cold Air Intake????

Hey, i was wondering if anyone knows what the best C.A.I. would be for my 95 5.9 360 Ram. I'm looking for as much hp gain as possible from one. Any input would be great. thanks.

I have the K&N FIPK II and love it. I upgraded the filter to a 7"x9" round and gained some top end and lost just a little on the low end. small enough of a loss for me not to care about it (and I'm a low end hog). the only complaint I have is the intake tube is plastic and needs to be reinforced where the mounting is to the throttle body. I'm on my 2nd one, 1st one cracked. so far the 2nd one is all good.

Yeah, I've seen those around and they look to be good.....i have also heard the same complaint about the plastic needing to be stronger. Everywhere I have looked, it says it increases hp by about 20-22. In your case, can you feel an increase in pickup when you punch it?

yes from the start I felt an increase using the butt dyno, going to the 7x9 filter helped the top end even more, before the filter upgrade, I'd have to drop into 3rd often while going over the sierra nevada mtns (25' elv @ Sac to 7500' across the summit on I80), with the 7x9 filter, I rarely have to downshift now, I'm able to maintain or accelerate in OD now.

I think the problem with the intake tube cracking is from over tightening it, I made my new one snug but not too tight to overstress it and I've been fine for months now, check it every now and then and it hasnt come loose.

i've got the k&n one also and it's great. installation was a breeze with immediate gains. the most noticable thing for me was it got rid of the throttle lag. as soon as i hit the gas it will accelerate where as before it would have to rev up for a bit until it started moving. it's a bit pricey but i think what i got out of it was worth it. you'll want a new exhaust afterwords, it's automatic. you buy one upgrade and it's just a gateway to more junk to buy.

I have the Airaid intake, and I really like it. I can't say if it is better then the K&N because I never had a K&N on my Ram. But, everything everyone said about their K&N above, I can say about my Airaid, except, instead of a plastic intake tube, mine is mandrel- formed large diameter tubing, powder coated inside and out. I doubt it will break like the K&N.

Does the K&N have a box around it to shield from heat? The Airaid does not, which is something I always wondered about. At speed, there is plenty of air coming into the engine compartment, but at a standstill, I think it would be worth it to sheild the air filter end from the heat coming off the exhaust. Is that what the K&N does?

yeah the k&n has a heat shield. the kit's without one will heat soak at stop lights, causing the potential for pinging when leaving the light. been there on a couple of cars. the shield is worth it's weight in gold if you ask me... I have a bmw 325is that I had a chance to experiment with and found all kinds of little tweeks the biggest being the shield. I also insulated it o both cars and that helped also.

Any ideas on a home made heat shield? I don't want to have to buy a new K&N, but I want the heat shield capabilities for my Airaid system.

I'm going to try one of these, since it is fairly inexpensive. I'll let you all know if it helps (for those of you with Airaid or similar design systems).
