dont do it!!! you might as well have no heat shield... that design will still suck in hot engine compartment air, you need a shield
Fabing up a heat shield should be easy, get some thick sheet metal and cut it to the size you need, then insualate it so it looks better and will not heat soak. insulate your intake tube as well (applies to metal ones only) so it doesnt get heat soaked either.

hey steveo. do you think you could post a pic or 2 of your set up. it would give me some better ideas for a sheild. i run the mac intake without one , and i would like to make a sheild for it. thanks

if you get the kn fipk, make sure you got some good zip ties...if you look closely, steve has one holding his to the bracket. i got one too and so does everyone else i know here that has one

actually the zip tie was for the insulation, I have a hose clamp on my bracket. I found no difference with the insulation, so I never put it back on. However if I ever get some of the adhesive backed stuff, I will add it just to make sure. the whole point was to prevent heat soak but since the tube is plastic, it doesnt matter too much.

OK.....so steve.....if I get this FIPK II can you sum up everything you said you did to yours (i.e.) not tighten too much, insulation and stuff like that? I looked at the pic of your heat shield....any directions you could give me? thanks
