Default Need a new Light-Switch,.. I think,..

Turn my lights on at night and sometimes just fine, other times,
The lights are dim. On, but real dim.
Wiggle the push/pull **** around and I'll get bright lights back
but, sometimes hit a bump in the road and they go dim again
until I fool with the push/pull **** once again.
The Reostat works just fine. Just the on-off portion with the lights.
Do I need a new Push/Pull switch?? If so,.. How hard is it to get to,
AND,.. How much to replace??? Really would like to stay away from
the Stealership if that's possible. Thanks. '96 1500 4x4.

sounds like it.
the switch is available at most local auto parts stores incl autozone. check their website, also rockauto. prices vary by year and fog/no fog.
i'm not positive about your 96, but see about removing the dash bezel gently to expose the switch. then it should remove easy.

Remove the dash bezel and you will find the switch on the left of the dash held in by a couple of screws. Remove them and gently slide the switch toward you. Pull the connector off the switch after gently prying back the lock tabs on the connector. Push the connector onto the new switchand reinstall it and the dash bezel. To get the dash bezel off remove the cupholder and ashtray. They are held in with 2 phillips head screws each. Slide them out toward you. Put the gear shift into Low and if you have a tilt wheel move it all the way down. The bezel will pull off easily, just go slow. When re-installing it make sure the clips around the fascia and the sockets they slip into are in good shape. Should be about a 10 minute job.

Thanks APA,. Perfect instructions.
I went to the dealer and bought the switch.
I know it cost more. It was only 19.99 minus tax
at Autozone but,.. Figured the mopar part was gonna
last longer.
Strange thing was, the old one I took out looked
burnt or, dis-colored on the back. The plug and wires
were ok but something was getting hot back there.

There is a resistor in the switch which is what controls the dimming of the dash lights. If the previous owner kept his lights dimmed it would explain the overheating color. Glad I could help.
