Default Accel Coil !!!

I am embarrassed to say that even after all the times I've read in various threads NOT TO BUY AN ACCEL coil! I bought one two weeks ago, finding it hard to believe because I have had a whole Accel ignition (cap ,rotor, wires, super coil, dual point distributor)in my 68 Mustang for like over 20 years with know problem what so ever. And I also had full intention of keeping the old coil in the truck with me just in case( which I forgot to do ). Needless too say, the VW I have been using to commute to the job site everyday (160 miles round trip and 35 mpg) for the last few months, seized the tensioner pulley for the timing belt yesterday,(that's another story, not a good two days) so I had to use the Ram today. Drove down there 80 miles, worked all day, went to start it up and nothing but a motor that wants to start but just turns over. The spark was blue but not as strong as I thought it should be. So anyway, after waiting for 2 hours for AAA ,we loaded up and he brought me and my Ram home 2 more hours at 55 mph.

Guess what the first thing I did when I got home? well after I took a ****, LOL.

And you better not say I told you so! LMAO

Well I am simply amazed that some thing as well known, even in our little community here, that a big company like that , that has been around for years can let this get by. I'm glad I have AAA and all, which is good for me, but, the expense that this 50 dollar item has caused in the big picture is crazy.

When mine dies, you can gladly say "I told you so." But like I told you, I can't put down my accel coil that has done nothing less than what I asked. Sorry all you guys got bad coils lol :-P

I ran with an Accel coil in my 'stang for over 10 years, I'm waiting for it to die so I can match it up with the rest of the MSD ignition. I actually gave up an painted it red to match. I love MSD but I must admit I've had zero problems with the Accel coil. I guess I've been lucky.

I had a good Accel. It lasted two years but when it died I still had the original in the truck. Now running MSD.

if you now have a bad Accel ignition coil
instead of using it as a 'paper weight'
you might consider taking it down to your local
motor repair shop
ask them to 'burn it out'
then rewind it with a 50 to 1 turns ratio
(was 76 to 1)
but keep the primary resistance in the range
0.9 to 1.1 ohms (so the PCM thyristor switch is not stressed)
and use the insulation process called VPI
on the completed coil

the idea is to get a longer 'burn time'
for your spark
