Hello from Boston- Radio question
I Just picked up a 99 Ram 1500 4X4. I would like to upgrade the cassette stereo (the front speaker wont work) to one that can play CD's. Did the Ram have a premium one available?
Is there a newer factory one that will plug and play?
My previous car, a 300M had the infinity system that had a seperate amp and crossover network that sounded so nice!
I'll be reading up on old posts regarding this cool truck. Looks like a pretty avtive place for us enthusiast.

I believe even some after market decks are plug n play with a harness adapter. Check Best Buy and Circuit City (if the ones near you are still open) :-)
And where abouts are you? I live like 10 minutes away from Manchester,NH.

Foxboro is a good haul from me, but I ain't no Patriots fan, sorry :-) I'm from Long Island so kelly green is my color, :-) And of course pinstripes in the summer,:-) And the stang is a 68 I got from my Mom, and she got it in 68 as a repo.
Hello fellow ram owner. In answer to your question, YES dodge did make another head unit that has both a cassette and a cd player. My truck came with this, that is how I know. They do also make face plate adapters and wiring harness adapters so that you can buy an aftermarket radio and hook it directly into your dash without modifying any wires or your dashboard. The faceplate adapter will take the size of your current radio and slim down the opening to receive an aftermarket radio and still use your stock bolts to mount up. Then the wiring harness will need to be spliced into the new wiring of the aftermarket radio and then the harness will simply plug into the harness that came out of your stock radio. Hope this helps.
Circuit City owns the patents to the quick link adapter harnesses that make installing an aftermarket stereo basically plug and play.
Hopefully if they end up going out of business it won't mean the end of those wonderful things.

I just recently took my head unit(cd/cassete deck that came with the Infinity system upgrade) out of my 01 ram and replaced it with a pioneer. It still works great,
I just wanted something that plays mp3's. If ya want it I'll sell it to ya on the cheap. Unless ur wanting a better upgrade. Up to you, it's not going anywhere quick.

I'm not saying your wrong or anything, but if Circuit City owns the patents, then do other places such as Best Buy, Mickey Shore, etc. use Circuit City adapters then? It seems that this would be a third party item. It does just so happen that I worked at Best Buy when I got my truck and bought my adapter from them.
just for consideration zman, I'm running sirius too, but with an aftermarket deck. When I switched from the FM transmitter to direct, the quality was significantly improved....So for anyone that has an aftermarket deck with an aux in, use it!
