Unhappy Transfer/case let go this morning,..

Out plowing, 2nd job of the day,..
1st, a Dunkin doughnut then, off to
a parking lot to do.
On the way to the second job I heard
and felt the whole truck making a
roaring sound and a vibration in the
whole truck.
But, with all the snow that gets packed
under it while plowing I really didn't let
bother me,..... Not until I dropped the plow for
the second job,....
The C/V joint let go on the front drive/shaft,
dug into the ground, and up in the air the whole
truck went! Not the plow, or the front end, the
WHOLE truck lifted up! Meanwhile, the truck kept
on rolling while making sounds like I just took a hit
from mortar-fire.
Got out, looked under the truck, (Not really wanting to),
and saw that the front of the transfer case where the
driveshaft goes into was simply missing! Driveshaft on
the ground 20 feet behind the truck steaming away, melting
the snow where it was laying!!
Put it into 2-wheel drive, drove home after picking up my parts
off the ground and called it a day. //No-fun//

Your truck has a C/V joint? is it a 3rd gen?
You meant to call it the U-joint?

either way, that sucks.
Taking away from your livelyhood none the less. Good luck with it.

Found a Transfer/case & driveshaft at a local boneyard
for 400 bucks! A friend of mine owns a trans-shop and
his business is really slow. In fact he's gonna close his
shop and just do repairs out of his home if work doesn't
pick up in the next month or two. He said for 120 dollars,
he will do ALL the labor of removal of the old one and install
the new parts AND, rebuild my new transfer case if needed
for just the cost of parts if needed. Think I'm getting a good
deal!! Side-note;.. '96 ram ext. cab 4x4's 5.9's were offered up
with three different transfer cases. I guess I got lucky finding
the right one at the boneyard. Three days, I'll have my truck back.
Looks like I'll miss one days worth of plowing with this next storm
coming in tonight.

I have a '99 Dakota ext-cab 4x4 I use for daily
driving but, I find myself always in the Ram for
some reason. (Guess I like it better).
Snow? Not very much when it let go,.. 3 inches maybe.
You know,.. I didn't even look at the pavement. I'm
gonna go back and check it out to see if there is damage.
STILL waiting on m truck... Maybe today I'll get it back.
