My Antenna install. Custom bent bracket formed out of aluminum. Rest to follow in the near to distant future.

So I just mounted my scanner. Yeah it's not a CB technically but hopefully it'll give other people some ideas for mounts/mounting locations. I decided to go under the center console because I didn't want to get rid of my cup holder and it was awkward anywhere else below the dash (I was willing to mount over the ash tray). So I built a mount that goes under the center console. I bought longer bolts and bolted the mount to the bottom of the center console. Check it out.

For the antenna I went with the 29" glass mount from Radio Shack. In the past I've had great experiences and so far I've been getting great reception. The trick is that you have to mount it as far up as possible. It can really make or break the reception quality. I know a couple guys on my fire department that got this antenna but they mounted it down low right at the bottom of their back windows and they don't nearly get as good reception as I do. I can pick up my FD frequency about 20-25 miles away before it starts fading out.

sweet thanks.
whats the part number on that ant? or is it the only 29" glass mount they have?
any special connectors need for it, or does it come with the BNC connnector already?

where did you run your power, and ant wires through?
it looks like you dont even have any wires exposed, I though about goin through the 4x4 shifter but there was no grommet like i thought, and now im at a loss as to where to run the wires at.

also you said you got longer bolts, was that so you could bolt the middle seat, and wood down at the same time?

Yeah, it's the only scanner glass mount they have (they have a CB glass mount too so don't get the wrong one, lol). It comes with the TNC to BNC cable and it's pretty long too. The scanner, which is a Radio Shack PRO-160, came with the power cord wire it directly to the truck. If you want to go to the cigarette lighter, you have to buy the plug seperatly.

Here's the link to the antenna:

Yeah, I have no exposed wires. From the scanner I went under the 4x4 shifter. I just pushed it right under no problem. From there I went under that thing right below the cupholder. Check out the picture (click to enlarge):

I went up under the dash, grounded the black wire to the frame of the dash and wired the red to the accessory port in the fuse panel using a plug that the last owner left in there. I can take a picture of that if you want as well.

For the antenna wire I just pushed it into the crack depicted in the picture below then just ran it under the center console to the scanner.

And yes, I bought longer bolts to support the mount. The back of the mount is held up and bolted to the center console.

While heading to Florida back in July my K30 had an accident. I think my light bar cover took it out lol. It yanked off the screw part of the base and won't screw back on right. I was gonna get another K30 but looking at Wilson 1000's also. My 30 was only a 35" whip the 1000 is like a 62" I put a bid in on one on ebay so we'll see how that goes. I wonder what the difference will be.

Ah that's whimpy LOL I have a low band radio antenna for my scanner.

I was thinking about getting a hood mounted just like yours but I wasn't sure about what to get and what would work with a scanner.

That's a really nice light setup, BTW!
