CB Install Image
I have posted this here before on another section...
The drink holder was broken when I bought my truck so I removed it.
Yaesu FT 1802 2 meter mono band 50 watt output.
1978 lafayette HB-640 / 40 channel CB, tuned
Also have PA connected under the hood.
Antennas are...
Ham - 19 inch mag mount
CB - Lil' wil rated for 300 watts also mag mount
I went with mag mount until I can fab some brackets. Actually want to put my dual band back in.
I have been an operator since 1975.
Also a tech who has service monitor, scope, frequency counter.
Tuning CB's (tweeking, peaking) requires final alignment after mods are done.
The reason twin antennas are a PITA is because you have to co-phase them. Coax length is important in co-phasing and requires trimming to match the separation of the antennas. Twin antennas should be a minimum of 9 to 10 feet apart to be truly effective.
They look cool but provide no performance value out of them. In fact, a single antenna will out perform "twin truckers" any day.
Wilsons are one of the best and fully tunable.
The best antenna performance you will ever get will be a 102" whip because that is resonant length for 10 - 11 meter.
It's not about the radio, it's all in the antenna.
Reason I use my older Lafayette radio is because it was before the 4 watt restriction became law so I tuned it so it has a TRUE output of 9 watts.
Anyone can "swing" and watch the meter bounce.
I can and have worked the world on 4 watts using a ground plane base antenna.

Mount it between the visors on the ceiling. That's where my Ham rig is.
Here's my install, Midland Portable and 102" whip. Some minor tweaks but it ran great yesterday. I don't care about the ashtray.
