Exclamation Exhaust replacement help

Me again (SEE THREAD " CYLINDER #5 MISFIRE); I would like to replace the current exhaust system on my truck because I know the cat is bad and the rest of it is rusty. Jegs and Summitt racing has this Magnaflow system that includes the "Y" pipe and funny 2 into 1 vertical cat that comes stock on these trucks. It's a little pricey so I was wondering if you guys had any heads up on some that's reasonably priced? I would also like to add headers to the mix and has been getting different views on whether to put long or short tube headers on the engine. The 5.9L is basically stock. Any suggestions?

I'm surprised to hear that your original factory system is rusted out, especially in El Campo, TX. I upgraded mine recently, and reused my Y-pipe and tailpipe since they are factory stainless (as I have been told).

If you have no engine internal engine mods, i.e., cam, heads, intake, I wouldn't fool with the headers for now. What I did was get the Magnaflow cat (2.25 in/3.00 out) and Flowmaster single in/out muffler. Had a local guy install it with 3 inch piping from cat back. Very satisfied with the sound and performance. I'm still running my cast iron manifolds until I have a chance to put on the headers.

Well my cat is welded to the Y-pipe so i would have to replace the entire thing I think. I am going to run a 3in pipe between the cat and tailpipes and right now the truck doesn't have any mufflers. where can i find this magnaflow cat only?

If your Y-pipe is OK, then the muffler shop will cut off the old cat and weld on the new one. It is a direct replacement. You can get the cat at Summit or Jegs.
