Default pushrod through rocker

From my plenum leak aftermath thread...

WHAT WOULD CAUSE A PUSHROD TO GO THROUGH A ROCKER???

1. Bad / low oil?

2. A bad misfire ?

3. A plenum that leaked for years on that particular cylinder?

low oil doubtful, that would affect a lot of moving parts.
sludge blockage in lifter or push rod blocking oil supply more likely.
weak metal in the rocker maybe.

Have a look at these pics!!!

The rocker on the left is what it should look like.... just a small hole in the middle
The rocker on the left is what it should look like.... when its been destroyed!!

The push rod came out wedged inside the rocker... I pulled it out and it fell to pieces.

It's like a brand new truck! It was quite a treat since it ran like crap since I bought it in Feb.

man,you would have thought you had a race truck if you would have went with the h.s. 1.7 rockers then.

i keep hoping that stuff like this would happen to my truck, like cracked head and, trans go out so i can justify spending the money pumping it up.

Did you have a moment that the truck rev'ed up to an abnormal rpm for any reason?

Maybe a bad lifter?

Very strange. Did you ever find the rocker dimple that popped off? It made a perfect circle. Intake or exhaust valve? The only thing I can think of is someone floated the valves and a piston slapped into it.
