Default help..where to look for my headlight problem

Here this week while leaving the house for work I notice my headlights don't come on right away. As I get down the road ,they power up. My parking lights are fine in the meantime. This morning I wiggled the headlight switch around and nothing. I lifted the hood up also and tapped at a few boxes, still no effect. Got down the road a few minutes away and they came on...what the hale!

i would check the fuse for the headlights and see if its loose if that isn't it i would take the bulb out and follow the ground wire and see if it poorly connectd somewhere if not the ground trace the power wire

Sounds like you might have a relay going bad. The relay should be under the hood in your power dist. box. There should be a lable in the lid that tells you what is what. Find another relay the same P/N and switch them. If it fixes your problem, then you know you have a bad relay.

Thanks for the fast replies... my search didn't find the exact problem I'm having .The relay sounds probable, have to look and see if my year has one.. The problem only occurs after the truck sits over night( maybe temperature?). I have no brights either when the problem occurs. Will check those things out this weekend, fuses wiring and relay etc.

If the relay is bad, the relay might not make contact until it warms up inside the engine comparment. Your power dist. box is the black box right next to your battery on your driver's side fender well. Pop off the cover and look on the inside of the cover for the locations of all the different relays.

The nice thing about the relay controlling the headlight is the fact that most of the relays in the box are the same look at the ones going down the right hand side.

I would bet on a faulty relay...that's all I can think of that may be affected by temp.
