Let me ask you this, why?

If its to haul more, just buy a more powerful truck. It will cost you less money and far less effort.

If its just so you can say you have 300hp at the wheels... Well, pointless really.

You will need to spend far more money than that truck is worth to attain those numbers. These trucks make about 190whp w/ the 318. You will be spending major money to get into the 300's.

well I doubt that buying a new truck will be cheaper, but it aint gonna be cheap!!

That said it does become expensive when making that big of a jump.
If you wanted to add that much power I would start with a new engine altogether.
How about taking your block and boring it over 0.030-.040 then put in a stroker rotating assembly. throw on some rpm performer heads, a nice cam, single plane intake and some headers(long tube of course).
That should put you around 400hp at the wheels at least.
A complete top end rebuild would net you the 300 hp you r looking for.
The problem with all of this is that when you start adding a ton of power and modding everything you loose drivabilty each time and you also start exposing the weaker links in your drivetrain.

Short of a complete rebuild with stronger internals and adding a super-charger, you would need some major boring, porting, polishing, etc. Even then, it would probably be more realistic to go with a 408 stroker for these numbers. This would be a good place to start:

its going to take sum money to really do that. because a stock motor has like 180wrhp because you lose like 20% throw the drive line....so just keep that in mine... good luck with the mods,...but i think you need to put a transgo kit in before you start adding some real hp....just my two cents.

i'm not sure of the best way to get to 350 rwhp but if you have a cold air kit i would recommend opening up the exhaust too it goes hand in hand.

Except for everyone knows that "cold air intakes" don't do anything but drop your low end torque with these engines.

yes they drop some tq but they also add hp. and since he already has the cold air he might as well open the exhaust. whenever you are putting more dense air at a higher volume into the engine you are going to have more hp. a cold air can add up to 15 hp in the top end.

Yeah, because we all know how much time a full sized pickup spends at the redline.

acsamples wants more hp. i dont think he cares about towing. First of all, i did not recommend a cold air kit i simply recommended opening up the exhaust. viper said cold air intakes dont do anything and that is incorrect. you can look up the dyno runs for our trucks on k&n website it does improve hp and usually tq making the acceleration better. i'm not arguing about how he drives his truck and what the best modifications are i simply corrected your inaccurate statement. maybe your truck doesnt spend much time at redline but i know a lot of peoples trucks that do. i use the 98 360 for towing but my 95 has the 318 5speed and is quite fast so i see the redline a lot.
