I agree with the bad oil pump. Drop your pan and check the screen on the pump. My gauge did the same thing last year and i replaced the pump and its been fine every since. The screen was really junked up. And like Dodgeram07 said.....DONT DRIVE IT UNTIL YOU FIGURE IT OUT!

All you need is a sending unit socket, ratchet and sending unit. I assume you have a ratchet, and the socket they will have where ever you buy the sending unit. If it still does it after you replace it, then you have gauge prob, wiring prob, or sorry to say pick up screen and or oil pump prob. I find it hard to believe a motor rebuilt 12 thousand miles ago would have a pick up screen prob though.

They are not going to give money back for the sending unit(it's an electrical part). And I would do it at school and stop driving it. Get a friend to give you a ride. And as far as the socket goes, they usually fit 2 sizes, so what can it hurt to add to your tool collection.

Exactly what he said! If it is your pump and its not pumping oil, than your running your truck "dry" and your gonna end up having a lot more issues than just a sending unit or pump! Stop driving it all over town.

And actually the synthetic oil may be the only thing saving you right now!

And of course depending on funds, you could buy a mechanical oil pressure gauge kit. (pretty cheap they are really) and just install it with a very short piece of the hose it comes with. This way you know for sure what the pressure is, and can later go back and route it into the cab to your liking if you want to.
