Default Questions about adding a 3" BODY LIFT on a 99 Ram. Please help.

Ok so i've been searching and searching, for some reason the DIY link isn;t working right now on this CPU so i'm just curious what else i'll need to install a 3" BODY LIFT.

My current set-up:
99 Ram 1500 (full size 4X4)
3" Rough Country Suspension Lift
35"/12.5/17 Pro Comp Mud Terrains.

My truck looks good but it's just not big enough, and a guy is selling a 3" BL for 75 bucks everything new in box since he wrecked his truck. He bought the kit for like 180 I believe and i'm waiting to find out what brand, does it even matter? I hear PA is the best but really whats the difference?

Anyway to my QUESTIONS/CONCERNS = Since I have a 3" suspension lift already, will I need something like a longer ground cable? Will I need a different 4X4 shifter rod? Basically since i'm aready 3" higher than stock, I need to know what to get BEFORE starting my install because I can't have my truck down more than a weekend.

So what do you all think i'll need to accomplish this?

I've never done a lift on a truck before but I have several fast cars that I work on regularly so i'm pretty good with mechanics. I can get a compressor and air tools and floor jacks and all the tools needed, i'm just worried about what i'll need to counter going higher 3".

I appreciate any help, thanks in advance everyone.

I have a 3" Skyjacker suspension lift that I added a 3" PA body lift to on my '99. I didn't need to do anything other then what the kit required. One of the engine ground cables was a lot tighter, so I just moved it to a different place on the body so it had good slack again. Everything else was just basically as described in the kit. I didn't need to extend my 4x4 shifter at all, but I did need to have the steering extension added. All the wires and brake lines and everything else still had plenty of slack after the BL. Been running that combo for over a year now with no issues. I checked the torque on the body mount bolts a few times, but they never needed it.

I had a trusted 4x4 shop install my lift because I was traveling a lot on business, and never had time to do it myself, but I wanted to get it done. It took them about 8 hours.

Thanks for the info!

Where would I obtain a steering extension? What size and where should I buy it from?

Would it be possible to post a pic of your truck so i can see what it look slike with the total 6"? Do you have bigger tires as well? Thanks for the help man, i appreciate it. If it's going to be this easy i'll definately be doing it over the holiday break.

Actually no need to post a pic, I just looked at your profile. Nice looking truck! Looks a bit bigger than mine so i'm excited to add some more height to mine.

Once I find out where to get tthe steering extension, i'll get it ordered and hopefully get this started asap.

Also I have the SPORT model. Does this matter, because on e-bay they have kits for sport model and non sport model, whats the difference? So is the SPORT model a completely different BL kit? I'm confused?

AHHH well i'm glad I found out that the SPORT models are retarded and use a different kit. How stupid is that. So looks like I need to find a different kit so this will not happen for a while since a new kit is 230 it looks like. I'll keep searching around I guess and eventually find one.

Thanks for the help though.

Ya, the sport model takes a different kit due to the bumper on the sports models.

The steering extension comes with the kit. PA is definetly the best kit, it is all inclusive.

Yah I can't find a SPORT kit for any cheaper than new so i'll probably end up going with a PA kit in a few months. I think it;s assanine that the sport models are so different, when Dodge didn't even make them that different so yah that sucks. Oh well...

Thanks for your help though.

I just looked on the PA website and I don;t even see a Body Lift kit that fits my truck. I see manual tranny ones but no auto tranny sport kits. Geeze what a PITA, stupid sport model, i;d rather have a regular model since the SPORT does nothing actually except some different grill and bumpers. geeze...
99 / SPORT / 1500 / Auto transmission / 3" Body Lift ????

Alright so I think I found the right one on 4wheelonline.com
I'm guessing they had to make one for a specific 99 ram sport auto tranny. looks like it;s 222.00
