IIRC the 2500 has the same 46re tranny with a 5.9. A 47re is used if it has a v10 or a cummins. Also the axles are heavier duty, DANA 60 as opposed to the 44 in a 1500.And the 2500 most likely has 4:10's in them. And btw, they both get pretty much the same mpg.
