Default KC SlimLite HID conversion

I finally got around to converting my KC SlimLite driving lights to HID. I used a 55w 4500K H3 kit from Apexcone to replace the stock 100w H3 bulbs. It was a pretty simple process. I had to drill the aluminum housings on the lights with a 7/8" hole saw to insert the HID bulbs and grommets. The bulb just barely fits into the SlimLite housing but it does fit. The rest of the conversion is plug and play.

I'm quite pleased with the results. When I first installed the SlimLites they were decent but nothing to write home about. Now they put out a very very bright white light in a nice pattern. I'll only use them off road because they're so bright.

I also installed 35w 4500K 9004 hi/lo HIDs in my factory headlight housings. They're bright but the light pattern is mediocre at best. I'm going to try to limit some of the scatter and glare that I'm getting. It was definitely worth doing since my factory headlights were pathetic but I'm not quite satisfied yet. We'll see...

Bravo man! You have nearly the same setup I have. Minus two more 55 watt 4300K Hella 500's.

Props man. Enjoy them.

Thanks. Eventually I'll get a set of SlimLite long range lights and I'll upgrade those to HID as well. You can never have too much light.

You know, you may want to just get another pair of driving lights. I tried converting a Pencil beam to HID, but I had a problem. The reflector is designed for a horizontal filiment bulb, and because the HID bulb's are long and the light comes out vertically, the light is in the wrong place. They are extremely bright to look at, but not much brighter then regular 100 watt's.

You may want to experiment with H3C HID bulbs though. They have that horizontal output. Not as bright as the bigger HID's, but brighter than halogen.

Expensive though.

Interesting. The driving lights do a great job of throwing light down the road so maybe I'll just get another set. It's not like I'm racing the Baja 1000.

Haha true that. Consider a Rectangular pair. They throw the light in a Half moon, that essentially has a cutoff, and lights up everything below it. If you'd like some pictures I can post them.

Those look good. Are they in front or behind the grille?

I think Purple was referring to the first post on here (Satellite's truck), not iwhitne's truck. Its kinda tough to tell with the lights on from the picture.
