headlight still dim
how do i change my headlight cable and dose anyone have one or know how much one will cost me new. pics would be nice to see where it goes to and from. its not my lightbulb because i changed them and switched bulbs just to make sure it was not the lightbulb. and if there is anything else that i could check before i just go changing the cable that would be nice to know as well thanks.
Get a cheap voltage tester and test the socket where your bulb plugs in with the headlights turned on...then compare it to the bright one to see how much the voltage differs. You may be able to trace it to the bad place.
what should it be at and the only reason im thinking the cable is because of all clip marks because from where the fog light where wired into and to test to see which on it is its chewed up pretty good. and if is not the cable what else could it be??
Did you disconnect the fog lights (and any thing else) you had tapped into the headlight harness?
What color wire were you tapped into? I'm assuming you tapped into the right or left headlight harness for your fog light power?

Ok...read all of your previous post. Sounds to me like you damaged your right side highbeam wire (red w/orange tracer?) when you installed/removed the taps for your fogs. Some adomishment
: Never, never run accessories like fogs directly from your factory harness! Always isolate those circuits with a relay. In fact, I'm ordering the Painless Circuit Boss from Summit because my PO put in some mickey-mouse trailer brake wiring into my truck. You're lucky you didn't melt your light harness and headlight switch. [/end admonishment]

That is a distinct possibility as there is no circuit protection downstream from the headlight switch. Just a huge 40A fuse upstream of it.

How are you currently powering your fogs? Do you have circuit protection? Does your fog switch power a relay or does it take the full current of your fogs? The Painless Wiring Circuit Boss (just google it) provides circuit protection and switched/constant hots without having to molest your factory wiring.
As far as the headlight harness, I would replace the damaged wire with a butt splice and see if that corrects the problem. If not, your going to need a voltmeter/testlight and the truck's wiring diagram. I have one in a Haynes manual, but you can go to the 2nd gen FAQ thread at the top of the 2nd gen listing and follow the links. Otherwise, you will need to take it to the shop if you are not familiar enough read the diagrams and trace out the problem. Cost? whatever their labor rate times labor hours is.

My fog lights are not attached to my headlights what so ever! They are powered on there own. I do not have a circuit protection i went to napa a few months ago and they did not have any one of the guys from the fire house told me i should get one when i was putting up my light bar. i took out the relay. I'm just going to take it to the show i worked today so the overtime will pay for that. I suck at wiring which is why i dont do it.
