gear selection
Not necessarily. 3.92 gears were also available in a regular half ton, as well as 4.10 gears with the off road package.
the break on the Dana 44 carrier is right at 3.92, you have to get a different carrier for numerically higher gears. I've seen a "thick gear" advertised that allows you to use the old carrier, but i don't know about quality.
And don't go to a 4wheelparts for the install. They hosed a brand new set of Yukon gears and blamed the gear set. Since I didn't buy it from them, they would not replace them. I drove around with horrible whine for a while until I could get a reputable company to replace them for more coin out of my pocket.
4wheelparts will never see a dime of my money again.

I did not know about the 3.92 gears but do know about the 4.10 in the off road as that is what I have.I knew he couldnt have the 4.10 though cause his truck is a 96 and they didnt have off road edition but for 00-01 IIRC.
Yep, the off road was only available in 2000-01 2nd gens (and possibly in the 3rd gens, I don't know). I ordered my tuck with 3.92 gears, so I don't know how common they are, but they were available.
