Question my tranny.. get your mind outta da gutta

Well,

As most of you know, my tranny blew out the same day I bought my truck.. so, I have been on the fence about how to fix.. I was going to resign to doin it myself.. I am not inept at mechanics.. So I could easily do it.. but, I'm older now, and not sure if I really want to tackle this kindo f project, in the cold nasty Ohio winter.. Plus if the gears are stripped, I'm going to end up with more expense than just getting a rebuilt one.. Well, I found a guy who can get me a tranny and put it in with 1 year warranty for $1200... I think this is a pretty good deal, and I am going to have him do it... I'm going to ask him if he can do the oil pump shaft while he's at it.. Should I have the pump replaced too or just the shaft? I know that's what's wrong with the oil pressure gauge, I can hear the shaft rattling in there, then it catches every now and then, and the pressure gauge works, rattle stops...

Anyway, what do you all think?

It sounds to me like this would be the best time to get it taken care of. My opinion is that both the shaft and pump should be replaced. That'll be one (two?) less thing to have to worry about later.

Nice score on the tranny.

be wary with trans that are that cheap normally there are reasons ; ) Heh we have a guy out here that does trannys complete rebuild tc and mild shift kit for 1300 for 46re but he never holds his warranties and his trannys go out quite a bit. Just a heads up.

Sounds like a deal, but I'm not Transmission shop friendly anymore. I scored a good deal on mine,(knock on wood it has held up). However, they misplaced my TC bolts and cut crank bolts and put them in. They came out after I launched it.

I would definitely look deep into each place. Check BBB and see if anyone has work done there.

When my tranny went out, it was built by a good ole' boy that my granddad knew. He charged 1200 and that was with the shift kit mod too. damn near 70K later I have had no problem out of it.... damn I cant find a piece of wood to knock on....

This guy comes highly recommended by a few people who seem to know... These are guys who definitely could do the work themselves, but have had him do it for them... They talk real high, so that weighs real heavy with me... Word of mouth means more to me than anything the BBB has to say... He don't have a BBB page, because he's private.. Real nice guy, and got back to me REAL fast....

Anyway, I'm definitely going to have him do it, I just was wondering if the oil pump should be replaced or just the shaft.

And don't tell me I already got the shaft when I bought the truck, I know that.. hahahahhahahahahahaha

Might as well have both replaced while it's opened up.
