I've considered rewiring my O/D switch so that it's OFF from the start and I have to turn it ON.

I've wanted to do that too. I read a post a long time ago on some forum about how to do it. Seemed easy, and the guy who did it said it worked like a charm.

When I got my truck I was told by friends to always drive with od off until you hit 55. Same with if when you park on a hill, to always use your ebreak to save my tranny???

You mean to use the parking brake? Yes, my father is an engineer and he's explained that the Parking Pawl is good up to a 15º angle, after which it can fail. Didn't you learn in driver's ed that when parking uphill the wheels turn to the street and the vehicle should roll back until bumping the curb, and when parking downhill turn to the curb and roll until the curb is bumped?

well i think it definately gives you more power because my truck wont think about doing 120 with the OD on but when i turn it off it sure will
