exhaust wont really give you more power because think of your engine as an air compressor, theres alot of variables affecting the air going in....also dont forget your exhaust is only as free flowing as your least free flowing part, it will give you quicker revs and slightly adjust the torque curve of your motor, but it gives you a nice sound haha.....if your going with headers go with shorties, hedman or edelbrock...the rest of the exhaust change over to 2.5" all the way if you do fake/true duel setup...if you do single exhaust do a 3" but im not a fan of it on gas engines....flowmaster mufflers run rampant original 40s or super 44s....if your elderly magnaflow...

There was a thread on here a few days back that had a good write-up link about 5.9's. It seems one of the best things to do to these engines for more power is new heads. That's a lot of work, but it's a must if you really want good power numbers. I can't remember what thread that link was in, but it was a good read. Other than that, my suggestions would be 1.7's, a new tb, and headers...followed by a good tune (SCT, maybe) to pull it all together.

define power... low end? top end? it matters...

to get the most low end keep your exhaust to a combined ~3" diameter area of flow, duals should be ~2.25". for a 5.9 motor get a 52mm fastman TB. I am a fan of the K&N FIPK and experimented with different filter sizes... stock sizing is ok but if you want more top end with the exhaust set at ~3", there is a K&N 6(or 7)x9 round filter that will give you more on top. It did not sacrafice too much on the low end.

If you search the archives for my setup... prior to 2006, you should be able to find what I had on there. I was able to get upper 13's, lower 14's for mileage on the hiway and had plenty of power in the mountains (sierra nevada's)
