why donnt you want a programmer? more hp,gets rid of death flash, speedometer set to tire height, code reader, top speed eliminator, and easy to use. its been my favorite thing so far.

after that i would say the 1.7 harland sharp rockers were the next best thing.

A lot of people also recommend to get a Cold Air Intake too.

Side Note: Whats death flash?

any time you have your truck taken into a dealership, the computer gets reflashed while its there. On our trucks Dodge came out with a bunch of updates that really affected the performance of our trucks.

Not exactly. The death flash is a specific modification to the PCM that is designed to solve a cronic ping problem that some trucks have. Just beacuse you go to the dealership, doesn't mean you're going to get that flash (or any flash for that matter).

You'll know if your truck might have it though because there will be a sticker on the PCM that says something like "Chrylser Authorized Software Update" or something along those lines. It will usually be stuck on over the original factory sticker that has the PCM part number.

erik, if your truck does not have the 'authorized software update' sticker, than you can proceed with other mods and ignore the pcm if you wish. however, if you have the sticker, dated 00 or so, then your pcm has all the timing sucked out of it, and you're somewhat wasting money by throwing small performance gains at it while ignoring easier and bigger ones. plan ahead though, hypertech and superchips are fixed tuning programs that cannot be changed or upgraded. others like b&g and whatever squirrels has are tunable to your truck by the seller, and you can tweak it over time, although it may cost you more money for change. don't get a jet chip, there's a lot of bad reports on those.

I think that some of the programmers are set up so that when you program your vehicle it locks in that vin # unless you program it back to stock. I would imagine it is done like this to prevent what you are suggesting.
