just put the air hat on with the S-bolt and filter minus the cover and lay a tape measure across the filter top next to the S-bolt. Give yourself about a 1/2" HIGHER than the tape measure and mark with a sharpie. Cut there.

Here's the DIY, but length may vary depending if you have to use a spacer and what size it is. As long as the bottom clears everything, do what AIM said.

Duh posting says over length 4" and mine 5" no wonder I had so much trouble!
