Default may scrap this motor

ok i got the new crank in, i gave her a few turns (spark plugs out, rockers and lifters out so i dont mess anything up) and she turned over three full times, so i know everything is good and seated. and then i started torqueing everything down and turning it is now phyisicly impossible. i have a feeling the block has to be line drilled, and not to mention, the rings need to be redone and thats more work then its worth.

so everyone knows, i am torquing the connecting rods down to 45 flbs and the mains are at 85flbs like the alldata computer says.

so i ot some plastigage and i will be checking that stuff, and then i am going to probably take it out, put it back in the box, take it back to dvanced, and tell then my block is messsed up and get my money back and get a new, not used but new motor, they are $1800 with free shipping and it is complete, all you need is your oil pan, and timing chain cover, and all the stuf for the front of the motor (ac, alternator, waterpump ect...) and it comes with all the gaskets... not to mention it also comes with a 5 year unlimited mile warrentiy

remember the 360 is balanced differently then the 318, so you'll need a 360 harmonic balancer, torque convertor and "maybe" the flexplate. The 5.2 pcm should be fine for a stock 360, but a 5.9 pcm is easy enough to find if your worried about it.

on the motor you're working on. i assume the heads are still on, and the pistons are still in the cylinders and pushed up out of the way as much as possible. so when you have the crank in and torqued, everything is ok, and crank turns freely.

so then you start attaching connecting rods and torque them, and it binds up.

i don't think the problem is the crank and the mains. i think one or more of your connecting rods is binding on the rod journal.

try attaching and torquing them one at a time, to see which one creates the bind.
after that's identified - i'm not sure where to go next, but it sounds like either a rod journal is oversize, or the bearing is over.

have you got, or can your get hold of a micrometer to measure the journals.

Please don't return the crank after you have installed it. That is not fair to the next poor sap that gets your returned parts. There is no telling what harm you may have done to it.

well it is not the crank thats bad. and not to be rude. i will return any part i dont need. not to mention, i havent done anything to it. i still have the motor completely torn apart

and i have all the connecting rods attached, and with the mains lossened, i can turn it, its tough cause of the compresion but i can turn it. once i torque one of them, i can still turn it. i torqued the next one. still turn it, torque that third one, and is done. i can put a really big impact gun (3/4 inch) to the bolt where the harmonic blancer goes, at the end of the crank, and it wont budge. lossen that one, it turns again. and i tried to torque a differant one. same thing. so its just easier...

and i might put a 360 in it, havent decided yet. i know about the harmonic balancer, and the internal and external balance. my only question is, whta kind of headers can i run with a 360 to bolt to my exaughst, so i dont have to modify that much. cause i know the manafolds are differant by like 1/4 inch on the 360's.

i dont know yet because my local autozone can get me the reman motor, same setup as the one i found for 1800, just a three year warrentie for 1644. so i think i my do that to get it faster and less for shipping
