Jack up the rear of the truck. With transmission in neutral, spin one of the rear wheels. If they both spin the same direction, you have an LSD.
If they spin differant directions, you have an open differential.

this is an open diff (non-limited slip). note the side gears on the ahh, side, and the spider gears on top and bottom. this one doesn't need the friction modifier, although it won't hurt it.

ok i added the oil cooler, and dropped the tranny pan and changed the filter and gasket. but im having a hard time with the tranny oil, i let it drain for probly an hour, than when i filled it up i added 6 quarts, and it read a quarter up in the "ok" line so i figured id ad more to get it in the middle of the "ok" line, i added another quart and it didnt move. than i added another and it still didnt move. a total of 8 quarts. i figured id stop there just in case im doing something wrong. and im letting it warm up to operating temps (200) and im cycling it throu all the gears 2 or 3 times for 5 seconds each, i even took it around the block and recycled the gears and checked again like 5 times, still reads a quarter up in the "ok line" whats going on?
