1996 dodge ram 4x4 trans question
my trans is a 46re what other year trannys can fit my truck, just bought truck and it does not move in any gaer at all, does not attempt to do anything.thaks scott
I believe that the 46re fits years ranging from 94-01. I have a 99 and it has the same trans. Why don't you try trouble shooting the trans before you jump to replacement. It could be something as simple as a sensor or something. Who knows. I just ended up rebuilding mine and it only cost me about 500 total (I needed a new oil pump ($220) and torque converter ($140)) plus the rebuild kit. It really isn't all that difficult, it just depends on how mechanically inclined you are and how confident you are in your rebuild.
correct.. 94-95 RH , OBD-I.. I think 90-95 are RH trans , jus 94 is when dodge change there body design , (dont hold me to it)
I believe the transmissions are very similiar, just the RH is fully hydraulic and the RE is electronic controlled. Obviously different, but not by much. The main difference is the valve body and then maybe a sensor or two inside the trans itself.

Have fun rebuilding, I am finishing up my trans right now. It really isn't all that bad if you have some experience with working on vehicles. The main piece of advice I can give is to be extremely clean and make sure to take your time so that you don't forget a thrust washer or something small that would make you have to tear it back out again.
