I believe that the 46re fits years ranging from 94-01. I have a 99 and it has the same trans. Why don't you try trouble shooting the trans before you jump to replacement. It could be something as simple as a sensor or something. Who knows. I just ended up rebuilding mine and it only cost me about 500 total (I needed a new oil pump ($220) and torque converter ($140)) plus the rebuild kit. It really isn't all that difficult, it just depends on how mechanically inclined you are and how confident you are in your rebuild.

Thank you for the correction. I know most parts are interchangeable between 94-01 and I didn't realize the trans was different.

I believe the transmissions are very similiar, just the RH is fully hydraulic and the RE is electronic controlled. Obviously different, but not by much. The main difference is the valve body and then maybe a sensor or two inside the trans itself.

Have fun rebuilding, I am finishing up my trans right now. It really isn't all that bad if you have some experience with working on vehicles. The main piece of advice I can give is to be extremely clean and make sure to take your time so that you don't forget a thrust washer or something small that would make you have to tear it back out again.
