put a cummins in my truck
omg.... for the cost of doing all that **** you could have got a new 2500 with the cummins!.. Looks cool.. but what a waste! You couldn't even drive it on the road with those tires sticking out that far!
In 1996 the V10 was king, YOU are misinformed. Of course start turnin the boost up and it's a different story, but the V10 is also VERY detuned from the factory and there's a easy 100 hp in that motor with very little work to do to it. Its all in what you want to do and how much you want to spend.
"King" in 1996 is debatable. Depended on your perspective at that time. The Cummins has far more potential is all i'm saying. Even in 1996, what the 12v Cummins was capable of far exceeded what the V10 could do. Not trying to start any war here though.
stock for stock the V10 was king in 1996, whats to argue about?
Specs from the 1996 Dodge Ram brochure
1996 8.0 V10 300 hp/450 ft lbs tq and had over 400 ft lbs of tq from 1000-5000 rpms
1996 5.9C manual trans version 215hp/440 ft lbs tq
1996 5.9C auto trans version 180hp/420 ft lbs tq
The torque curves of the diesel weren't nearly as broad as the gas V10 and were rather peaky. We are of course talkin stock and a naturally aspirated motor vs a forced induction engine at that, so it's still not apples to apples. Take the turbo off the diesel and you'd have a huge slug put the turbo on the 8.0 thats built to handle it and it be a mountain mover. The turbo is what has made the diesel engine so popular, before that they were the doggiest of dogs, ask anyone who drove a 6.2 non turbo Gm diesel or a 6.9 non turbo Ford ugh

dude.. it takes you 300hp to make 450tq.... that can be done with 215hp in the cummins!! A cummins can easily make 1000hp!!!! I even seen up to 1200HP.. lets see that with your crappy V10!!! lol If I had more money I'd get a cummins.. but i'm poor...so maybe in a few decades.. I will say this.. the V10 does make a good plow truck
