Default dies at heavy throttle

So, back to my truck dying in the middle of the road, I have been working on it and I am trying to run heet through the fuel lines, (same thing as seafoam basically) and so it has been running pretty well at an idle, occasionally giving a little sputter, but if i play with the butterfly valve real lightly it keeps it going... but if I pull the butterfly valve back real hard it just sputters and dies... does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is??????

The engine will sputter and possibly die if you add seafoam through the PCV valve while revving. I'm not sure if I understand your question though...

If you haven't checked fuel pressure yet, check it. If that checks out, then it sounds like it could be the TPS or MAP.

it was coughing it sounded like, but not like a backfire...there were a few times when the exhaust almost sounded like a backfire but not quite, I think that was just the way it was sounding when the rpms dropped so suddenly though.

And I didnt add the heet through the pcv valve, I added it straight through the fuel, it was a fuel additive.

MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure, located on the TB front.
TPS = Throttle position sensor, located on TB driver's side.

If you want to diagnose the problem yourself, go get the following:

*Haynes manual or equivalent. There is also a 2001 factory service manual linked in one of the FAQ threads at the top of 2nd gen list. I have found these indispensible.

*Fuel pressure gauge kit.

*Digital volt/ohm meter (DVM).

You can get all of these things at a quality auto parts store. Learn to use them as they are your friends. It beats trying to replace parts in the hopes of curing the problem. I've had better luck at the craps table in Vegas!

Did this happen right after you added the fuel additive?

I already have a haynes manual...I know the fuel pump is running, I can hear it like your supposed to...Im still hoping that this may just be bad gas in the tank, but like I said, I just ran heet through it and it still hasnt improved... Ill go get those tools in hopes that they may help... Do you know if condensation in the distributor cap could cause these kinds of issues as well?????? we just came by that idea by calling a friend who knows a lot about engines...
