Doing what makes me happy.
do what you want to do. If you decide to put bigger wheels and tires on, or just tires, make sure you keep the old ones. That way if you ever have a problem again you can go change everything back to stock and you wont have any problems.
I know when we bought the 2008 Avalanche, the first thing I did was put a K and N intake on it. I was going to sell the old intake, but if we ever have motor problems, I want to be able to make everything stock again so there wont be any Bull Chit at the dealership.

If I were in your shoes I would get the tires I wanted to use on my truck and be done with it. And if I had a lift kit (and liked it) I would sure as hell put that back on too. There is no way the tranny shop can argue with you that a small lift strained the tranny. Now some larger tires and they can argue, but a small lift?! Come on.
And honestly, I cannot see a set of 305's hurting a tranny either, especially with 4.10 gears. I have had several set of tires ranging from 36" Mickeys, 35" boggers, 35" BFG's, several different sets of 33's and now my 34" MTR's and never had any tranny issues until my pump quit. And olyelr's tranny has seen its fair share of throttle/abuse over his first 9 years of life

i want to know where you got yours... i wish i had that right now
I got it rebuilt at TC Transmision in Traverse City, MI.
There is several tranny shops around my area and I just stopped at a few and started asking questions. Brian (at TC Transmission) seamed very knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable, so he got my biz. And I made it clear to him before he even got the job that my truck gets wheeled and it will continue to and he had no problem with that at all (and the warranty was still in tact).
I toyed around with some ideas with him about swapping in a 3/4 ton unit or even a 5 speed, but he told me that with the proper upgrades to this tranny that it would be plenty strong enough.
I don't know anything about trannys or the upgrades he put in it, but it has been working good sense the rebuild. One thing I do know though is it shifts quite a bit harder than the stock setup did. He said I may go through u-joints a little more often (which I haven't), but the hard shift is actually easier on the tranny (instead of slipping into each gear). And replacing a u-joint is slightly cheaper than the tranny
i wouldent man your truck looks sweet as is, why dont you save it , and get 1.7 harland sharps rollor rockers, and the fastman. i know for sure you would love those mods. we all do. both mods help in the low to mid range that these truck struggle in. and both are easy install that you could do it your self.
i know for me since i got the extra power from these mods, i dont beat on my truck as much casue it just goes now, but when i want it too go it goes. gotta love simple bolt ons

It's tough for me, I always resurrect the desire for my big tires and lift again, but there are just so many strings attached. Even if I bought some 305s, I'd probably want the truck to be a little higher. Then I'll have the problem of having to sell my existing 285s. They only have about 8,000 miles on them right now, I feel like it'd be a waste of money if I took them off so soon. I could probably get away with buying 305s with perhaps a 3" skyjacker kit, but then I'd be sad that I just spend $350 on brand new monroe shocks in June. Also, I know at some point I want this truck lifted 5" with 35s, so wasting money on a midway lift seems silly.
Practically speaking, the "safe" thing to do is leave everything alone until I have no obligations with N.E Transmission. I did not buy these 285s, my father split the cost with me, I really am not in a position to sell the 285s. The least I can do is probably run these 285s until there dead, which is going to be around when my warranty expires, March 2011. Then I'll be free to buy whatever lift and tire I want.
I know for sure that I used to love my old set-up. 5" of lift with 35" tires, seemed perfect to me. I should just appreciate I have a new transmission, and remain content until this warranty passes over. I guess I'll just continue to make this truck look good while I wait around. I'll just put my tax returns towards those new rims I want. Then when it's time to lift her up big again, I'll have flashy wheels to go with the 35" tires...I apologize if my situations drains anyone, it sure as heck drains me lol.

Ya know what I don't get. I thought you took the lift off cause of gas prices and wanting a low more mpg truck. If you took it off cause of the tranny ***** then that's just messed up. I would never change my truck for somebody else. No matta what
