Default Doing what makes me happy.

I guess I don't really care at this point, I'm doing what's going to make me happy.

N.E Transmission completely stripped my truck down. They blamed my lift and 35" tires for their incompetent shifting transmission.

Now, I have a stock lifted truck, and 285 tires, and its depressing, especially since I bought this truck as a beast.

I am not going to touch the lift until my warranty is up, but I am not driving my truck around unhappy with the tires for 2+ more years. I'm buying 305s. This way I can at least be happy with the look of my truck again. It's already one thing I have a stock transmission and lift now, I at least want it to have a mean tire again. A 305 should not effect the transmission if I drive the way I've been driving these days. I don't peel out anymore, and I sure as heck don't floor it anymore either. What do you guys think? I was going to get Toyo A/Ts, but they don't offer a 305. So I think I'll get Mickey Thompson Baja ATZs, they offer it in a 305/65/17.

Read the warranty, obey the fine print, or no tranny warranty for you.

Are you saying you know a bigger tire will void my warranty? Or, are you saying they may have it written out that a bigger tire will void their warranty?

All depends on the warranty. The guy that rebuilt my tranny said I can run any tire I want and wheel the hell out of it and he would still let me have his shops 1 year warranty. He claimed that our trannys built properly can handle tons of abuse.

Well, I know that I never wheel this truck. Quite frankly, I've become an old man lol. This truck never sees past 3,000 rpms. I just figure at least if I'm going to be bitter for 2 years about my truck not being lifted anymore, I want to be happy with the tires. It's like a double hit on me that I lost my lift, and I have tires that aren't wide enough for my taste.

I mean, is this crazy? I just hate accepting I'll need to drive my truck for another 27 months with tires that I absolutely hate. I can accept the height of the truck, in fact, it fits my purposes better. But she needs a wider tire, a 285 just looks stupid IMO on an offroad edition suspension. Idk...

If the pic in your sig, is the way your truck looks now! You are crazy! That is one nice looking stock truck for a rig in Maine. I wish mine looked half that good. Save your damn money for other crap that normally goes bad on these trucks,or a girl and enjoy your nice looking dependable ride.

Thanks zman for the compliments. I really do like the look of my truck, but I've had the 285s for 7 months now, and everyday I still have to convince myself that it's still cool looking (compared to what it used to look like). I realized, the height of the truck, is fine. It's the tires that do me in. I really used to like how wide my 35" tires were. A 305 would be about the same width my 35s used to be.

Am I treading dangerous territory by purchasing a 305. It's not going to be as tall as my 35s were, it's going to be smooth, and not weigh as much either. With the way I drive these days, I honestly don't think it's going to make a difference to my transmission. I feel like my truck is as fast or slow as it was with the 35s. IT feels like this truck noticed no difference with the 35s to the 285s. I'll be getting my tax returns soon. I can either buy brand new procomp extreme wheels, or the new 305s...

Is it writen anywhere in the trans warranty that you must not use larger tires and a lift?

No, it is not stipulated anywhere in my write up about bigger tires. However, a big part of the case against them was that their transmission still shifted improperly even after we put the stock tires back on, and took the lift off. Having the 285s on my truck allowed me to "walk the walk". But is there a need to run 285s still? I've gotten them to replace the transmission, and it appears to be shifting properly. I feel like they probably don't even give a crap that I have 285s or not, while I'm sitting here suffering with what look like to me, small tires. If the transmission were to start malfunctioning though, I don't know if they'd try to blame it on the wider tire...I doubt that though.
