Default MSD 6A and Underdrive Pulleys and used rr's

I came across a thread where a member was selling some used parts. I sent him a PM about a package deal on the complete MSD 6A setup he had and underdrive pulleys. He wanted $150 for the MSD setup and $65 for the pulleys. In the intent for getting feedback and not getting dicked over buy somebody buying them out from under me I'll tell you his price. He said $200 shipped for both.

I have seen 6a's going on ebay but thats just for the box. He is selling the 6a, blaster coil, all the wiring I would need to install it in the truck "complete MSD6A kit for a magnum V8, plug and play, you don't have to cut your wire harness at all with a blaster coil and a tach adapter (won't throw codes, tach adapter is brand new)"

And the pulleys "Underdrive pulley set. crank and alternator pulleys, both steel. Used very little. Require a longer belt (I think it was 5 inches longer)."

Now for my questions...

Can anybody that has these tell me about them? Did installing them make a difference? As you all know I'm rebuilding my engine so keep my future mods in mind.

I have heard people saying that the MSD didn't make a difference but then others tell people to get it. That being said i don't know if its worth it.

The pulleys came off a 99 would they even work on my truck?

I was planing on waiting till later to get a MSD but if i can help a fellow member out I would consider buying one early. Beings its the whole setup makes it nice too.

I also came across another member selling a set of used 1.6 HS rr's. He wants $200 for them. Said theres only about 20,000 miles on them. Assuming they are in good shape and have all the parts would this be a good deal?

Thanks for any and all help.

Huh? who is Willis? I'm talking about Viper37. He is always puttin down somebody's product.

EDIT: Reread the post. Doesn't sound like Viper37. Disregard my posts. I'm tired of ruining threads. Its just boring now.

The MSD didn't offer much in the way of peak HP gains. I did get 1 to 1.5 MPG out of it, and it revs better, so I think the torque curve went up, and it started more quickly. Negatives are that the wires and plugs have to be changed more regularly due to the hotter spark (I just did my plugs every year, and got some good MSD wires, and didn't change them out in the year and a half I ran the setup)

The Pulleys should *should* work on any magnum with the serp setup. They're said to be worth 5 HP or so, but the butt dyno didn't tell me that. The goal of my modifications were more for mileage than anything, so I figured slowing the P/S, A/C, and water pump couldn't hurt, and the alt pulley turns the alt at normal speed, so you don't lose any charging output.

and I've heard nothing but good things about the roller rockers. The lighter weight and the lower friction can only help with mileage and power.

Had the MSD on my 2000 5.9 and it worked great for it's intended purpose... smoother idle and it seemed to rev easier. I agree on the spark plug/cap/rotor swap... count on every 20~25k (20k is better). I ran the accel cap & rotor and it did not last as long as the mopar ones.

On the pulley's if you have a 5.9 motor they most likely will not work, 318/360's of 1999 used the same pulley's & balancer if i'm not mistaken, my 2000 had a balancer/pulley combination in one piece and required a special puller for it.

556 thanks for your input. I'm really considering the msd stuff. Not sure on the pulleys esp now that silver pointed out that they may not work.

for the pulleys, just see if you have the 6 bolts on the end of your current balancer holding on your stock pulley, or if it's all one piece. that'll answer your question.
