10.000 in upgrades
Ok, you dodge guys need your input here. I have a 2001 1500 4x4 sport short bed wil a 5.2 It has just under 64.000 miles. I'm coming into some money and I would like to put no more then 10,000 into the truck in upgrades.
I could just get a new truck, but I like this one very much. I will say it has no ***** off the line at all, but I can run 100 miles ahour down the road with no problem at all.
I do drive with truck everyday so keep this in mind. What would you do the make this a kick *** 4x4 with ***** and stall drive it every day to work.
I was even thing about a viper v10 install, but I think that would be very hard and not sure if it would work in my truck. As I said no more then $10.000

408 stroker. What do you want out of the truck, you want it to be fast? look good with big tires? most of the stuff your going to do will affect the driving characteristics, but how much do you want to put up with. If it was me, i would be doin a Skyjacker 7" lift with 37" M/T MTZs on 18" Rims, and most likely a set of 4.56 or 4.88 gears. But thats gonna run you pretty close to your cap, it will leave you with a couple grand left over, in which case i would toss in a 360 with the common mods like RRs, TB, tuner, exhaust, etc.
But if your going after power, build a 408, super badass.

I'm not one to lift a truck way into the air. At one time I had a a big ford with 44's and a big block 460 roller motor in it. This is my first dodge and H ave been very happy with it as of now. I need to be able to drive in town and in some cases drive up to 50 miles one way to work. At this point I need it to be able to pull a camp or a bob cat from time to time. I just put 285 75 16 tires on it and it seems to have a hard time with them. I just hate like hell to have alittle car or truck pull up on the side of me and leave me at a red light. So lets go from there on the build. I need to find out the gear sizes in the front and rear
if your gonna be pulling a load, id consider a better torque converter, as these are a major weak point in theses trucks trannies, and a deep trans pan, and a gauge first, before you do anything else, oh and an external trans cooler
the amount of time and money for you to do a viper v10, you may as well get a 2500 with a cummins and hot rod it some. I think a stroker is an awesome alternative if you want to keep your current truck though. Maybe even a stroker/supercharger... you'll not have any issues with off-the-line performance. Best bet though... call www.hughesengines.com and let them know your budget, and what you are looking for, and let them line it out. They are a bit more, but they have world class customer service, and they are masters at building magnum engines.
super chargers are cool, and i know this kind of doesnt pertain to us, but i know a guy with a Ford V10 with a supercharger pushing around 450hp, and he gets 1mpg pulling his camper ip just about any hill. just some food for thought

I would go with the stroker. Then I would go with a dana 60 front and rear with posi and some 4.56 gearing. 5 inch suspension lift with some 35s. then I would stick on some engine mods, chip it, headers and a full exhaust system. Thats what I would do if I had the money.
I'd get a 408 stroker.. NV4500 trans (w/cooler temp ga. ect) keep the 285's get a 3" lift, change your gears to like 4.10's Ranchhand Bumpers, electric fans, HID's, maybe a truck cap? tinit the windows, CD player, Scan Gauge ll, Rhino Liner the bed and rocker panels and under side of the whole truck, and change the diff covers. Rebuild the front end with Thuren control arm, new joints, 4wd act, run dual shocks up front, bilstien, disc brake upgrade to the rear end, new headlights, and a set of nerf bars, don't forget to let the 408 breath.. CIA, and flowmaster 3"
