I'm piecing my stereo together right now. I'm laid off so I have to do it in pieces lol.
I just got 2 MTX Thunder 10" subs and a cadence 2100 amp. They weren't really the subs I planned on getting. But the stereo store here had them in a box that fits under the seat of a 98-01 Extra Cab for 300 bucks. So I had to get them. I would definitely try getting one of those boxes. They're tucked under the seat and totaly out of the way. And they're mounted downward so the sound has something to bounce off of or whatever. I don't know a whole lot about sound, but I know subs sound better in like a sealed trunk because the sound ricorchets off the wall or whatever. This audio wizz guy was telling me about it.

But I plan on getting 4 new Infinity kappa 6 1/2" speakers and wiring them to 4 channel 400 watt cadence. My buddy had those speakers in his Toyota with a couple of 10's and it sounded bitching. And they're only like, 115 a pair.

if you want any help with setting your stereo up in your truck teddy, I can help, I live just north of you in eugene. Im not going to lie, thats to bad that you ended up getting those, I wish I would have known earlier you lived so close and that you were looking to set up a stereo, I could have gotten you a better single 12 set up that is even more out of the way than your underseats, you would still have that space left, kappas are nice, but I would suggest maybe downgrading on what you get in the rear and upgrading what you get in the front, the back is really just support for your front speakers...I would suggest upgrading to a higher end brand in the front and sticking with those infinitys in the rear.

And I appreciate the compliment about the placement of my door speakers when you do that, you can build a bracket and set it behind the spot that you mount them to, its much better than gluing the tweeters in, build the bracket crossways and mount it, then use washable marker and try and visualize how you want the speakers to mount in that spot on the door, I chose a little lower and back because the style of that portion of the door made it look centered, but you may choose to have it set differently, if you have any more questions feel free to ask, stereos are really my forte, I wanted to work in car audio for a long time, now Im working on getting into the home theatre business... so I have a thing for audio haha.

Oh sweet. I usully work in Eugene. Yeah I'll probably get some better 10's down the road, I never really used that space anyway. I keep my truck pretty much empty. Where do you put the 12? I was looking at buying a shallow 12 and putting it down there. But I think it would of stuck out.

phoenix gold ryvals are very good speakers, I had a set of 3.5 inch ryvals in my corolla that I had for a while and those outblasted most of the 6.5 speakers on normal shelves so i imagine the 6.5 in ryvals are real nice, I have the ryval 1000 watt 4 channel amp in my truck and its amazing! Bazooka tubes have always sounded odd to me, Ive always thought of them as being more of an outdoor or trunk space kind of setup... they reverberate real funny...

My 12 is set up in a custom center console sub box, you know your center seat, that seat is now a sub box, its still a seat also, but it sits slightly higher than before, about an inch higher, not much though, and its very hard to tell that its a box making it very theft deterrant, because most people will just look under the back seat for a sub, I also have my subwoofer amp set up in my center console, and my speaker amp is behind the back seat. What head unit do you have dakota?? ill try and figure out what settings you need...

Oh that sounds pretty sweet. But the 1-'s work for me. The only thing I ever kept under the back seat was guns. But I got a gun rack a while back so it's just been empty space. They're totally tucked away and sound pretty good so I'm happy.

It's either the Momo's or the DB's. The Momo's are the higher end line. The DB650 is what I run.

Those are what I have in the rear of my truck. They were in the front however, I've since upgraded to Polk DB components up front. All powered by a 70watt rms x 4 Alpine amp.
I used adapter plates up front so that I could use 6.5" speakers instead of 6x9"s.

I have used Polk Momo's in the past and was super happy them. However, these are a tight fit. Crutchfield says they wont fit but they did the tweeter just touched the door panel but that didn't matter. Since they were such a close fit I was afraid the Momo's wouldn't since they are bigger. So I just stuck with the DB's and they sound pretty good.

For my subs I have 2 12" Infinity subs powered by a 500watt rms Alpine amp.

All this run through a Alpine H/U. It's a nice sounding setup. I used to have a 10" Kicker Comp VR in here and it's a really nice sub. I switched and put it in the Honda and the 2 12"s from there in my truck. Well I blew one so ordered new ones for the Honda and just ended up using them in my truck.

I've got Pioneer and Alpine speakers in the Accord. The Pioneers are decent. Better than stock but nothing to write home about. The Alpines really sound nice though. I really like them.

Infinity makes good stuff too. In all honesty probably Polk, Alpine, Pheonix Gold, or Infinity are the brands I'd consider most.

Diamond Audio and a few others are nice too but cost a lot more and I'm getting the feeling that you don't want to go that way or am I wrong?

Some guys like JL stuff but honestly I've never been impressed. I've had friends spend a lot more on their setups to have JL stuff and none of them have sounded as good as my setup in the car or the truck and I've spent a lot less both times. It's decent stuff but I've yet to see it be that great. I've heard other stuff I think was better and cheaper too. Now I'm sure some of their stuff if setup right can sound great.

If you want to spend a little more components are a nice way to go in the front and either just subs in the rear or a set of nice speakers. A lot of the audiophiles I know prefer not having rear speakers in a lot of setups however, I've always been a fan of hearing music from the rear other than just the bass. Some disable the tweeters on the rears also but I've never done that. The only downside is if you do go with components not only do they cost more you also need a amp to power them.

BTW Crutchfield.com is great for electronic stuff. It tells you what fits and what not. Some stuff will fit they say wont like the DB's I used but for the most part they are really good. If you call they can usually tell you why stuff wont fit. Or have been able to for me.

What he said sounds pretty good... except I would steer clear of kicker if I were you, its loud...but has no tone really...you just get the same sound on every hit. Its kind of the throw some random stuff in there for a cheap price kind of sub... Diamond audio is expensive I admit, but very worth it, they are about the top rated company on the market, now being closely followed by rockford fosgate now that the design manager for rockford fosgate is the old design manager for diamond audio when diamond was the top.

Boston is also going to be extremely expensive so I wouldnt suggest going in that direction if your looking to save money, my bostons ended up costing me 400 for the set of fronts... but they are the best speaker in all the stereo stores in the area... I have 250 watts running to each speaker in my truck(not rms) and I can just about max out the volume on those speakers just about and still have them not distorting, enough to hurt your ears because the volume, but with no loss of sound quality really. And for subwoofers, I strongly suggest rockford fosgate, I am a huge fan of their subwoofer, I have the 12 in p3 in my truck, and I just installed a 10 in p1 in my gf's volvo and both setups sound real nice, and rockford fosgate has the best warranty on the market, 1 year in store exchange on all non water non physical damage, so if you blow it and the sub is not wet or beat to hell they will return it in the store, right there, no shipping or anything to deal with. and 2 year shipping warranty, so if you pass a year then you have to ship it.
