01 Ram 1500 Trans problem
I finally had my truck towed back from the mechanics last night and out of curiosity I decided to try and drive it into my driveway instead of pushing. When I put it in D it drove. I then tried reverse and that worked as well even after I drove around the block. The next day I tried to do the same thing......... and nothing. Could there be some electrical problem instead of a tranny problem?
One thing about these trans units. Even if you unplug the electrical connector, you still will have rev and drive. So, if it nuetrals out or doesn't move, you are have some type of hydraulic problem inside the trans.
Yeah in limp mode the truck will still move forward and still have reverse.
I think it reverts to 3rd gear for limp mode. If the truck quits moving all together you have a transmission problem, not an electrical problem.

My reverse is slipping again. They told me the band was worn, so replacing the servo got me to the point where I can back up in a flat parking lot, but not up a slope. I almost got stuck in front of my barn unloading.
While I'd love a new F250, I also want a new tractor ($21,000) so I guess I'll just have the trans rebuilt for $2000 with warranty and maybe see if I can't figure out why it steers drunk.
I kinda wish I had bought a 3/4 ton though. I feel like once the trans is bulletproof I'm gonna break axles.
