Default Both Headlights stop Working

Hello,

I have a 2001 Dodge 5.9 4X4. I live in Alaska, so it does get real cold at night and that might have to do with the problem. A couple of days ago both my headlamps went out. All other lights work (ie. blinker, side lamps and fog lights). I checked both the power distribution center (under hood) and the junction box in the cab for open fuses, but didn't find anything. What else could be causing this? I checked the bulbs and both are good. I also checked the wiring diagrams. I know its probably a simple fix-can anyone give me their opinion? Thanks.

Take the headlight switch out and see if the harness or the switch itself has a melted pin.

yeah, I know that is going to be the best way to troubleshoot, but I don't want to take it out if its not the problem( -2F). My high beams work, just no low beams. Thats what I will do soon. Any other suggestions?

If you haven't done so, check for voltage at the headlight receptacles. No voltage = blown fuse, bad HL switch, or bad ground. I believe the HL ground on a 2001 is up under the dash behind the cup holders.

Sounds like you've narrowed it down to the HL switch or HB switch. Just pull out the HL switch far enough to TS. I believe the HB switch feeds into the HL switch.

It's rather easy to take the headlight switch out.
