My truck feels like everybump im gonna loose control. so i took it to the shop this morning and they said that the rear track bar or bars are bad. i didnt think there were any tracking bars in the rear. they told me that the rear bars can affect the handling of the truck. so any suggestions what i should do or is that even a part that is on the truck.
more info is needed , model ? 1500, 2500 ?? and did you look to see for yourself that a trac bar is even there ?? on most 1500 there is no rear trac bar...
so sorry its a 1997 dodge ram sport 4x4 sport edition. i looked and didnt see any kind of bar in the back. maybe he just called it that but it could be called something else like a stabalizer or hop shock
i kinda have the same problem. I will hit a small bump and the front goes over fine but when the back hits it there seems to be something that makes it bounce or hop whatever.
Might be my shocks but i dunno. ordering a lift withing 2 weeks so ill find out then
Sounds like your shocks are wore out. Unless you have a lift, or aftermarket suspension, I dont think you have a rear track bar. Shocks absorb the spring or bounce that is created from compressing your leaf springs. If your shocks are worn out, you will hit a bump compressing your leaf springs and b/c your shocks are not doing their job, your truck will continue bouncing. One way to check your shocks is to get on your rear bumber, bounce up and down and then jump off. If your truck continues to bounce then your shocks are bad.
There is no track bar in the rear. They have a sway bar in the rear of some 2500's, but no track bars. Im sure its the front track bar, as that will make it drive like crap.
But, if the shop told you it was the rear track bar, I think I would be heading to a different shop.
Check the shocks for sure as stated above(should be no more than 1 1/2 bounces after), and make sure there is no broken leaf spring . And how much psi do you run in the tires?
I still agree though, that the prob is in the front somewhere.
well they said they ordered rear trac bar so i will see tomorrow what the heck they put on. maybe the guy explaining it didnt hear the technician right and it is the front track bar. this board is really nice to get some advice from dodge owners and i want to thank all the input from everybody. now i can approach this with more knowledge than before.
