Default transmission issue 98 dodge ram 4x4

i'm having a problem with my transmission shifting properly or at all. when i'm stopped and go to accelerate it will only shift after i let off the fuel pedal and then start to accelerate again. then it shifts and when it's gets to about 30 mph it drops out of gear and will not shift and doesn't stay in any gear. also it won't do anything in reverse either. this is an automatic also.

this happen about a month ago and when the shop got it and had to move it was fine. i drove it probably 300 miles and it has done it again. i haven't driven it in about 2 weeks so i don't know what it will do now. would the 4x4 have anything to do with this.

Replace your governor pressure sensor and solenoid and adjust your bands.

MonteC, you should just change your signature to this statement. You are like the trans guru on this forum and it seems like every time someone (including myself) says they are having issues with their trans, you always point them in the same direction to start diagnosis. It is always the first step you suggest and the typical fix if there are no major problems.

Please don't thing I am ******* you, I am just saying that you must be getting bored of saying this constantly.

Listen to MonteC, he knows his $h!t!

I don't see why not. As long as you are comfortable with a few nuts and bolts. To replace what he is talking about you just need to drop the trans pan and then take them off of your valve body.

As far as adjusting the bands, there are quite a few write ups in here talking about how to do it and in the DIY section it is for sure there.

My biggest advice though is to make sure you are VERY CLEAN about it. You want to take caution in making sure you don't get crap and dirt from the garage floor into your transmission.

it was the solenoid and transducer on the tranny.. a lot cheaper then a new tranny.
