It underdrives a vehicle's accessories at a slower rate than stock. reducing parasitic drag
caused by belt-driven accessories, but more importantly by reducing the moment of inertia.
Your looking at 1-3 hp gain and can lead to dips in alternator voltage, power assist, and air
conditioning effectiveness may be noticeable, especially at idle. Unless your running a drag
car or a straight up street machine I wouldn't do it.

There are a few places to get mid length headers, but I have never seen any that weren't ridiculously expensive. GSMotorsports made a set, as does Southeast Performance. The older Doug Thorley/Mopar headers were a mid length, and said to be great headers. Hard to find today though. Most will only fit a 2wd application too. I think Southeasts will fit a 4x4 though if I recall my conversations with John Mercedes correctly.
Look to spend $800-$1000 for a set of good mid length headers though. It's mostly because they are custom made by these companies, not mass produced like shorties from JBA, Edelbrock, Gibson, etc, so the price is going to be higher. They will be good quality though.

looks like its back to researching. i donnt know how many hours i spent researching and reading posts on shorties till i finally decided on the ceramic edel's. oh well, back to the drawing board.
its going to be a little while anyways. working on painted pocket flairs, smittybilt or go rhino dominator stainless steps(the ones with the little loops to step in),and a roughcountry lift. my new stainless bull bar should be here tomorrow or the next day.
thanks guys for your opinions. you always give good advice. it always seems to weigh on the ups and downs on things.
