badd tranny
I have a 42re? tranny that is not shifting right, i changed the fluids and filter(which was badly burnt and smelled badd) put +4 fluid back in it. It seemed to help it. But when I kinda get on the gas a little it wont shift until I let off the gas. Then it will slip into gear. My o/d light does not work in the dash at all. I have checked the fuses. I checked the switch itself but could not get any fire . I have a 1998 Ram with about 115,000 miles on it,tranny was rebuilt about year and a half ago. Thats why i changed the fluid so I would know for sure what fluid was in it. Thanks for any comments or suggestions...Bud
yes I agree, wished I had read the forums before I took the pan off...I went to autozone and had them read the codes for me and it come up with
1)transmission 12 v supply relay fault
2)3-4 solenoid fault-no rpm change at lock up
3)the pcm has detected a malfunction in the 3rd and 4th gear shift
4th)torque converter clutch solenoid condition
will any of these faults cause my o/d light not to come on

If you look back through a couple of threads, MonteC usually jumps in at some point and suggests replacing a couple of things. You should check those and probably start there. It might just be a sensor or solenoid in your trans that is giving you the issue.
Edit: Plus I am almost positive that your T/C won't lock up unless you are at like 55mph and in D or O/D.
