The federal government says any vehicle that came with one from the factory must retain one, regardless of what the individual states say.

here is my problem with the hp claimed by the superchip people. i had the hypertech max energy and the jet chip stage 2, and both claim about 20hp. and the 3815 claims 46 hp. and yes the 3815 has a little more power but in no way shape or form does it have over twice the power as the others. i think most people that say that it does have that big gain have never tried any other tuner to know what the difference feels like.

Death flashed pcm probably reduce hp by 20-25hp I would guess from accounts Ive heard. On those trucks, adding a superchip 3815 may add close to that claimed 46hp.
On any normal truck that is not deathflashed though, chances are 20hp gain is all you would see on a dyno

Yeah, the emissions is a bit of a messed up system. Feds say you must have a cat if the vehicle came with a cat from the factory, but the individual states are responsible for testing it (or if they want to test it).

The "death flash" was an "updated" program for your truck's PCM that "solved" the plenum problems we're all familiar with. Rather than recalling the trucks and fixing the plenum issues (very $$$ and time consuming), Chrysler just changed the programming on our trucks' PCMs to retard the timing. Reduced gas mileage and power, but then you can't tell if there are problems with the plenum.

Bascially, they treated the symptoms rather than the cause because it was cheaper.

Sorry, but I aint a wealthy person by any means. I also decided a while back, that I wasn't dumping any more money in the truck unless it became an absolute necessary fix.
The only reason I put new shocks on it was because I bought all four of them for $50. and usually they are about $30 a piece.

EDIT: I dont get that much of a smell from the exhaust.
