I have a question...For people that have cut off or gutted the cat conv did you have less MPG or more MPG or was it about the same?

From what I have read it sounds like the only benefit is your truck is louder. I just bought the Magnaflow direct fit Cat. I am waiting on my exhaust system before I put it in.

My truck has a straight pipe and a flow 40 and i think i get avg mileage for my model if not slightly better (15 cty & 17-18 hwy). I feel it lost a little low end grunt though it is barely noticeable (if at all) however the top end is a little stronger. and i love the sound!

A couple years back I took my cat out because it was horribly plugged up. The dealership wanted $600 to replace it and a friend of mine that worked at Mr. Muffler wanted $80 to straight pipe it. I went for option 2. I thought I wasn't throwing a CEL until I found out a few days ago that the light is burnt out. Sure enough I am throwing a code so tonight I am trying the non-fouler trick to take care of that.

I took mine out awhile ago, and thus far I have had no CEL and my mileage has not improved, or decreased.

you lose mpg becasue its lots louder and i love it becasue its so much louder than chevy and fords http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExWcbsh-oxA , thats why i put mine on becasue i just had a cat back and chevy and ford would come up beside me and be louder and i was embarresed becasue i have a bigger motor that isnt louder. but i like it now, you could get a cut out before or after cat if you wan it really annoying
