Default Parts truck question

I am looking at buying a parts truck to keep my 98 Ram 1500 4x4 up to snuff. Other than the dash, is there many differences between 1994 to 2001. I am mostly interested in drivetrain and suppension but any info on body parts would be helpfull to. Does it matter much if I find one with a 5.2 or a 5.9? Mine is a 5.2. Any tranny differences? Transfer case? Differentials?

94-97 have different interior pieces and seats. the 98-01 have different dashes and seats mainly. almost all the other should work but I don't know about the tranny.

Thanks 01dabram20,

That is pretty much what I thought. I was also wondering about the difference between a 1500 and 2500. It's pretty much everything suspension wise is just a little heavier isn't it?

94-96(?) engines use the EGR. My 1997 doesn't have the EGR. I don't think this truck will be of a benefit for you unless you're getting it for a good price and can make more than your money back parting it out.

What year is the parts truck? Pre 96 also is OBD1, so the PCM is different, and I don't believe the transmissions are the same. 46rh as opposed to 46re in the 98.

The parts truck will be what I bid on. It is an auction. That is why I am trying to get all the info I can. So far I have been concentrating on looking at 97 to 00 trucks.

Bid on one with the same motor as you have also. The pcm is flashed different for the 318 , than it is for the 360.

Wouldn't that be a matter of just changing out the PCM if I decided to use the different engine?

Yea, but if your buying a parts truck, why not get one as close as possible?

If you swap the PCM from another truck(don't matter if 318, 360) you will get a code unless you have the V.I.N from your truck flashed into the parts truck PCM.
