why are these transmissions bad?
+1 my five speed is great also!
and my 98 has the original auto tranny with 260k on it and it just recently started having shifting problems. i am goin to attempt to adjust the bands and see if that helps otherwise its off to the scrapyard with that one.

well, i have 121K on mine adn now i am woundering if i have a bad oil pan gasket leak or if its my trans seal or whatever cause i have alot of moisture coming from my underside, i have alot of work to get done ont his truck before she goes back to NC when i get back from iraq.
i have a family friend that is goignt o rebuild my trans fromt op to bottme with all heavy duty parts for the extreme abuse i put it through, and to hold up to a possable 408 i may put in, havent made up my mind,,,
but to go along the trans failures, i currently drive my truck daily with no reverse, i have already tried to pull to pan, flush it, yea, doesnt work, i broe the babnd straight off.
along with other thign people dont do to these trannies they alsdo do have weak parts in them, so save money and a little weight. My grandfather usaed to woerk in a crystler shop for some time when these trucks were coming out, and ont eh bandsm, they are a mounted side and adjusting side. the adjusting sides are stroing btu where they mount, it is a very thin metal, and thats what breaks on these trannies... thats what happen to mine and thats why a flush and adjusting jsut dont cut it for me

You only got the 47RH/RE if you have a 2500/3500 with the Cummins or V10.
Well that sucks.
this is my 2nd tranny,,few things ive done to this one was added the trans-go reprogrammer, and put a heavy duty tranny fluid cooler...nextime this goes out im either going fully built 727 and trash this 46re,,or im going manual (which id really love to do more than anything)throw in an nv3500/4500,,then later on go tremec....
Yep 46rh/re. I had a pipeline company bring me a transmission from a dodge truck they were using as a DRILL RIG, i think it was a 3500, but it had the 5.9 gas motor. I thought there was no way it was a 46re. Wow i was wrong and very surprised. I had to build that one to the gills, very heavy duty service truck.
